Count of Monte Cristo: A Day on the Open Seas

Sun Sep 27, 2026 10:45 AM - 1:30 PM Gas Light Ship, 94501

Join us for an unforgettable day on the open seas! Embrace the spirit of Edmond Dantes and set sail on San Francisco's most beloved historical schooner for a full 2.5 hours voyage around the bay as we celebrate the Count of Monte Cristo. Relive the themes of the famous novel as you imagine yourself gazing upon the castle prison of Chateau D'If as we sail past Alcatraz, our own famous island with history of daring escapes. Contemplate the finding of mythical treasure and plotting elaborate revenge as our crew tells us more about the local history and the parallels we can draw with Dumas's work.

Enjoy a fully catered Mediterranean luncheon in Gas Light's cozy cabin, with alcohol-free drinks provided, and alcoholic drinks available for purchase at the bar.

Please read the details below carefully to ensure you're fully prepared to enjoy the day!

Voyage Description from The Crew:

Our typical route includes views of the San Francisco city front, Alcatraz Island, with views of Angel Island, the Golden Gate Bridge and depending on local conditions, your sail could take you across the Bay to Tiburon and Sausalito. The exact route depends on the winds, tides, currents and chances of fog and boarding location. No route is guaranteed.
Our Captains are local experts and can curate each trip to what you’d like to see and experience. Want to sunbathe in the summer sun? Let us sail you to the east of Angel Island! Want to feel the wind in your hair? We can take you to ‘the slot’ where you’ll feel the cool ocean winds and the sea spray in the air. Do you wish to have a close-up look at San Francisco's historic maritime centers? A cruise up to Aquatic Park near the Palace of Fine Arts, then a brisk sail past Alcatraz back to Pier 40 will provide incredible views. Each day offers new and exciting sailing adventures!

Questions:
 https://www.baylightscharters.com/pagef

Costumes: The Count of Monte Cristo took place between 1815 to 1830s. Late Regency to Romantic era costumes are very appreciated. Your wildest gigot sleeves and wackiest Romantic-era hairdo are highly encouraged.

Late Regency fashion abandoned the airy columnlike empire silhouette in favor of a more structured silhouette. Throughout the late 1810s and 1820s, the waistline descended toward its natural position while skirts widened at the hem into a conical shape. The neckline became wider and tighter sleeves gave way to more voluminous puffed sleeves. This evolution peaked in the 1830s Romantic era with the rise of the enormous gigot sleeve and bell-shaped skirts.

Space & Safety: Please refrain from wearing large hoop skirts. Smaller corded petticoats are historically accurate for the 1830s and much easier to navigate on deck. Given the sea breeze, we recommend securing any hats, hair ornaments, and headdresses firmly to avoid them becoming kites! Shawls, cloaks, or other outerwear are also recommended.
