Great-Great-Grandson of Charles Dickens
‘The younger Dickens’ portrayal of his illustrious ancestor is HIGHLY ENTERTAINING. Rich with nuance, humour and a generous spirit’ Talkin' Broadway
Gerald Dickens is an actor, director and producer specialising in the works of his great-great-grandfather, author Charles Dickens.
A fascination with the life and works of Charles Dickens led Gerald to write his first one-man show, a theatrical performance of A Christmas Carol inspired by Dickens’ own energetic readings of the 1860s. Further shows followed including Mr Dickens is Coming!, Nicholas Nickleby and Great Expectations. Gerald has been invited to perform in major theatres, arts centres and stately homes throughout the world, and we look forward to his visit to the Great Green Barn where he will perform two shows during the evening, Mr Dickens is Coming! and Doctor Marigold.
Mr Dickens is Coming!
A light-hearted and varied look at the life and character of Charles Dickens. Using scenes from the great author’s works, Gerald weaves a story of wit and pathos, transforming into such memorable characters as Ebenezer Scrooge, Miss Havisham, Mr & Mrs Micawber and the bagman’s uncle, not to mention Queen Victoria and James Bond!
For all lovers of live theatre Mr Dickens is Coming promises an evening of supreme comedy and entertainment from a gifted storyteller.
Doctor Marigold
When Charles Dickens toured the country with his series of dramatic readings, Doctor Marigold was one of the most popular, and it still moves and delights audiences as it did in Charles’ day.
Marigold is a market Cheap Jack, travelling the country fairs and selling goods from the back of his cart. The rapid sales-patter immediately engages the audience, but soon Doctor Marigold is telling his life story, and it is a tale both heartbreaking and moving.
