Background
The Green Communities Project is a partnership project between Plymouth City Council and the National Trust. We are working in 3 key areas of the city, Devonport, Keyham and Central Park, aiming to connect people to nature and work with local people to look after our local green spaces.
As a part of our ongoing work in Central Park, we have discovered the want for more volunteering opportunities. There are always jobs to do in Central Park, and your help is greatly appreciated!
What we will be doing:
On this day, the Green Communities team will be on the Pounds garden boarder removing an old wire fence that has been caught up in a young hedge, which has grown through it. We will be removing any undesirable trees from the hedge and cutting any limbs from the trees that we cant get free from the fence. We will be taking the fence out once we have got it free. We will be using tree sawn, loppers, bolt cutters and other sharp tools.
We will be there all day, feel free to just pop down for an hour or stay with us all day. We will be there regardless!
Why are we doing this?
The hedge here is fairly young and growing through the fence. This is damaging the trees and as there is a hedgerow here, there is no need for the fence. Once the fence is free, this hedge will be laid by the Green Communitties team, which will reguvenate the hedgerow and increase this natural barrier.
Keen to learn more about hedgelaying? Pop down and have a chat!
Due to the use of dangerous tools we ask that any children are over the age of 13, and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All abilities welcome, no experience required. We hope to see you there!
Please arrive anytime from 9:30am. We will be there all day, so pop along for as long or as little as you like.
We will have all the tools and gloves you will need, just wear suitable clothing and bring any refreshments you would like.
