Celebrating community ownership - what next for Kirkcaldy? Our Annual Gathering and AGM
Sat 9 Nov 2024 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM GMT
Adam Smith Theatre, KY1 1ET
Description
This year’s Annual Gathering is a celebration of community ownership.
In 2024, Greener Kirkcaldy has been celebrating five years of ownership of our community building at 8 East Fergus Place. There will be plenty of opportunity for discussion of new ideas for the future of Kirkcaldy.
We look forward to welcoming our guest speakers, Alastair McIntosh and Mark White. And we will take the opportunity to celebrate our amazing volunteers who really bring the sense of community to our building and organisation as a whole.
At the gathering, we want to look to the future for Kirkcaldy and inspire new ideas in the community. This event is hosted in the Advantage Suite of the Adam Smith Theatre, Kirkcaldy.
Our Speakers
We're excited to welcome two guest speakers to this year's gathering.
Alastair McIntosh, writer, academic and activist - Alastair McIntosh is best known for his work on community empowerment, human ecology and poverty of body and soul. His books include Soil and Soul on land reform, Poacher’s Pilgrimage on spirituality and Riders on the Storm on climate change. Raised on the Isle of Lewis, he has lived for the past 20 years in Govan. He is a founding Trustee of the GalGael Trust and an honorary professor in the School of Education at the University of Glasgow.
Mark White from the Leslie Town Hall Project - Mark has been a member of Leslie Amateur Drama Club since moving to Scotland in the early 2000s. He is the main driving force behind the Leslie Town Hall Project in Leslie, near Glenrothes. Mark relishes the challenge of refurbishing the Town Hall and making it a welcoming arts and community centre at the heart of the community
