Taste of India
Tue 5 Nov 2024 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM GMT
Greener Kirkcaldy's Lang Spoon Community Kitchen, KY1 1XT
Description
Lentils are known to have been here, and eaten by humans, since the Bronze Age. India is the biggest producer of pulses in the world.
In this hands on workshop we are visiting and exploring the flavours of India, looking at more dishes from this ever-popular cuisine.
We’ll use fresh, seasonal ingredients, along with classic spices and flavours to create 3 authentic dishes.
We’ll make:
- Dhal with spinach - Dal is made from split peas and does not require prior cooking making it a versatile and flavoursome dish.
- Bombay potatoes – the most popular Indian side dish
- Onion bhajis – an onion fritter that is a popular street food in India and Pakistan.
We’ll discuss how to use and adjust the spices as you cook so that you have a delicious dish with the levels of heat and flavour you prefer.
There will be time for sharing ideas on how to adapt these recipes so you can use your favourite ingredients. We hope you’ll be inspired to experiment further at home.
You can also try some masala chai to complete the experience.
Our workshops are fun and informal, our tutors will support you to prepare the recipes, we’ll chat and answer questions as we go.
We’ll look at the ingredients and techniques – and basic principles so you can adapt recipes the to include variations.
The course is hands-on, making our creations from scratch and there will be time to discuss, taste and compare notes.
The course is suitable for beginners and people with some experience interested in trying out something new.
All recipes are suitable for vegetarians and can be adapted for vegans. Please note wheat and dairy will be used in the workshop, but we can adapt if we are able. If you have any dietary requirements or queries about the ingredients used in the workshop, please let us know when you are booking.
