The Long 18th Century

The Long 18th Century

Sat 27 Mar 2021 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM GMT

Online, Zoom

Description

Following on from A Brief History of Music and Shakespeare's Music, join GreenMatthews for a musical journey into the past!

The term "the long 18th century" is used by some historians to denote the period between the Glorious Revolution of 1688 to Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo in 1815. Coincidentally, it's also a period where folk music and art music occupied the same space and crossed over to an extent which was unknown in subsequent eras. Chris Green and Sophie Matthews play songs and tunes from this oft-neglected era of musical excellence and will explore the links between Handel and hornpipes, ballads and ballets – and the barnyard and Baroque.

The concert lasts for one hour. GreenMatthews will then be available for a live Q&A/chat for a further 30 minutes afterwards.

This event will take place LIVE in Zoom.

Details of how to access the event will be in your ticket confirmation. Please make sure you check your spam or junk email folders if you don't receive it straight away.

Ticketing

We are offering three ticket types for this event:
- Standard ticket is the ‘normal’ price that we would charge for the event
- Pay a bit more is for those who can afford to, and would like to help support live music
- Pay a bit less is for those who would find the standard ticket a bit of a stretch, for whatever reason.

You can purchase whichever ticket you like; you don’t need to give a reason, and you won’t be asked for any proof of need. For online events you only need to purchase one ticket per household/computer.

We are trialling this ticket system to help make our events more accessible to more people, and to allow those who would happily pay a bit more to do so easily, helping us to subsidise tickets for those who can’t afford them.
