Need help?
This workshop is designed for staff working in general practice who may be asked to act as a chaperone or need to understand how chaperone support is offered to patients.
Chaperones help protect both patients and staff. Current NHS guidance recommends that all staff understand the role of a chaperone and how to raise concerns. Staff acting as formal chaperones should also understand their responsibilities and be competent to carry out the role.
What you’ll learn
The session will cover:
- What a chaperone is and when one may be needed
- The role and responsibilities of a chaperone in a healthcare setting
- Good practice and the personal qualities needed for the role
- Patients’ rights and concerns
- How to explain the chaperone service to patients
- How to find and use your organisation’s chaperone policy
