Where the fens breathe, and the legend walks - The draining of the Isle of Axholme and the Legend of the Tiddy Mun

Summoning the spirit of the North Lincolnshire marshes through folk rock, spoken word and local dialect. The Tiddy Mun Band was created in collaboration with the North Lincolnshire Museum as part their year of exhibitions and events, Vermuyden 400, commemorating the signing of the contract between King Charles I and the Dutch engineer, Cornelius Vermuyden, to drain the fenland of the Isle of Axholme and Hatfield Chase and turn it into agricultural land.  As engineers carved channels through the wetlands, disrupting people's livelihoods and way of life, the people attempted to rise up against the injustice.  People also whispered of a small bog spirit, a mysterious child like figure who appeared at dusk, cloaked in mist and whose voice carried on the wind across the fens, Tiddy Mun, who could curse a village overnight if the land was mistreated.  

Join us for a night that celebrates landscape, heritage, tradition, history and folklore. 

With the band being formed only for this year's commemoration, this will be the final chance to catch this performance.
