Attract birds, insects, amphibians and hedgehogs to your garden!

Mitch from the Dorset Wildlife Trust will be giving a talk and answering questions on making your garden more welcoming to local wildlife. You will also learn new practical skills by creating some new features in the Secret Garden. Many of these you can apply at home, whatever outdoor space you have. For example,

  • Growing year-round native flowering plants to attract pollinators and beneficial insects
  • Use of bird feeders, bird boxes and bird baths
  • Attracting hedgehogs into your garden
  • Stag beetle stumperies, bug hotels, solitary beehives and hoverfly lagoons
  • Wildlife ponds and green roofs

How much does it cost?

  • This workshop costs £3 per adult (over 16) payable when booking.
  • The workshop is free for children (aged 7 to 16)
  • Free bursary tickets are available for adults on low incomes or means-tested benefits.
  • Additional donations are very welcome. 100% of proceeds go towards our charitable aims of reconnecting people with nature through growing, sharing, storing and learning about locally produced food.

Is it suitable for Children?

Children over the age of 7 are welcome to attend and will be able to take part. Please include them in your ticket orders.
Younger children may also accompany you but there aren't any specific activities designed for them. They are free to explore the garden if they wish. Do not include under 8s in your order.

What happens in a workshop?

  • Workshops start with an introduction to theory, followed by a practical session in which participants practice their new skills.
  • There will be brief overview of our charity and a chance to explore the community garden.
  • There is always time for a tea break and a chance to chat and meet new people
  • There will be suggested home activities or resources to follow up what you have been learning about.
  • At the end there is usually something to take home.

How do I get there and where can I park?

  • If it's your first visit then please give yourself a bit of extra time to find us...
  • We are tucked away in a corner of St Clements Churchyard, St Clements Road, Boscombe. (On Sat Navs, use BH1 4DJ).
  • Our gate is in the churchyard. Walk towards the church along the path leading from Knole Road and our gate is on your right.
  • Unfortunately there is no visitor parking allowed in the churchyard but there is some on-street parking available on Knole Road and the surrounding streets.
