Description
Help us to find out what plants and animals are living at West Boldon Lodge!
West Boldon Lodge is a thriving nature site, and we need your help to figure out exactly what wildlife is here. We’ve got a full day of free activities on the site for you to join in with, helping us to find, identify, and record all the species present on our site. You’ll have the opportunity to get up close with our local wildlife, learn ID skills, and contribute to the conservation work of West Boldon Lodge. No previous experience necessary, all activities are led by skilled professionals who will help you join in whatever your skill level.
There are various events throughout the day and you can come to all or just one. All tickets are free but must be pre-booked.
Dawn Chorus Walk and Bird Ringing Demonstration
6:00 – 11:00am
Getting up bright and early is the best way to see and hear the birds on our site. We’ll take a slow tour of the site, watching and listening to the woodland waking up, and record the birds we find along the way. The bird ringing demonstration will allow you to get up close and personal with the birds and see exactly which birds we have on our site. We’ll then retire back to the centre for a cuppa to warm up. Suitable for adults and children aged 4+.
Daytime BioBlitz
11:00am – 2:00pm
Drop in any time throughout the day, you can join various led activities hunting for woodland minibeasts, dipping for creatures in our ponds, and surveying the wildflowers in our meadows. These activities will be at set times, confirmed on the day. You can also carry out some self-led searching, with bug pots, magnifying glasses and binoculars available for you to take out (subject to availability) on the site to explore at your leisure. Suitable for adults and children aged 4+.
