Growing Communities x Sauerpuss: Seasonal sauerkraut workshop

Tue 2 Jun 2026 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM The Hillbilly Social, N22 8NE

Preserve the seasons and survive the hungry gap!

Your local veg box scheme Growing Communities has teamed up with fermentarian (and long-time Growing Communities customer) Clare Heal aka Sauerpuss to offer a seasonal fermenting workshop.

Learn how to bridge the 'hungry gap' - the time of year when the winter’s crops are finished but spring and summer’s bounty yet to appear - and create your very own jar of sauerkraut to take home.

We'll be making the most of seasonal produce, improving gut health and sharing inspiration about what to cook with some of the more awkward contents of your veg box!

This session is perfect for anyone looking to reduce food waste, build confidence in fermenting, and try something new. After the workshop there’ll be a chance to enjoy a drink and a chat whilst sampling some ferment-forward snacks.

Please bring your own jar (approx. 500g), this helps us keep costs down.

We hope to see you there!

What to expect:
6:00pm: Settle in, grab a drink, and find a seat.
6:30pm: An intro to Sauerpuss and Growing Communities, followed by a short talk from GC's Helena on seasonal eating, veg box cookery, and the hungry gap.
6:45pm: Sauerkraut Workshop: Get hands-on and learn how to make your own seasonal sauerkraut to take home.
8:00pm: Enjoy ferment-forward snacks, buy drinks from Hillbilly Social, and chat with fellow attendees.
