ROOTS & ROPES
Knot a planter. Grow a guide.

What happens when rope, roots, and words come together?

In this hands-on Wonder & Word Studio workshop, children will create their own knotted hanging plant holder, choose a small potted plant to take home, and then turn what they’ve learned into a practical how-to guide.

Participants can choose to write about how to make a plant hanger or how to care for their new plant. With thoughtful support for remembering steps, organizing ideas, and communicating clearly, kids can approach the writing in a way that works for them while still creating something useful and uniquely their own.

Roots & Ropes is part of Wonder & Word Studio, a collaborative workshop series from Growing Minds & More and NEST Collective that pairs hands-on creativity with meaningful written expression. Each experience is designed with multiple ways to participate, create, communicate, and succeed.

Samantha Fraley, MFA, MA, is a Washington State licensed teacher and founder of Growing Minds & More. She brings her expertise in writing instruction and composition to help children organize their ideas and turn what they know into clear, meaningful written expression.

Shana Anders, PT, DPT, is the founder of NEST Collective. She brings an executive-function-informed approach to help children move from idea to plan, work through challenges, and carry the creative process through to a finished product.

Together, Samantha and Shana create a playful, supportive space where kids can try something new, do something challenging, and leave proud of both what they made and what they communicated. Creators and writers at every level are welcome.

Each participant will receive:
• Materials to create their own knotted hanging plant holder
• A small potted plant to take home
• Guided support with knotting, creating, and procedural writing
• Their finished hanging planter
• Their own original how-to guide to take home
