Join me for an 'Introduction to Foraging', exploring the hedgerows, meadows and woodlands of Bransford Community Farm. Learn to identifying wild plants, flowers & fungi while reconnecting with the land we call our home. We will discuss how to safely identify seasonal plants and understand sustainable harvesting practices. Please note that the seasons will determine what is available to learn about, during the Autumn months for instance there may be a heavier focus on learning about fungi foraging.

Where: Bransford Community farm : Bransford Court Lane, Bransford, Worcester Worcestershire, WR6 5JL.Time: Please arrive at 9:45am so we can get started for 10am.

Course structure:We will have a quick introduction concerning safety and how the morning will run. There will be a discussion around how to sustainably and safely forage, foraging etiquette and the legal parameters we are to work with when foraging in the UK.We will then proceed on a route around the farm land discussing specific seasonally relevant foragables (the 4 Fs - Flower, Fungi, Fruit and Foliage) along with other goodies/plants of interest we may come across.We will circle back to the staring point, where we will have a quick debrief before the session comes to an end. Please note that some sessions will involve a 10–15 minute uphill walk to a nearby woodland.

What to bring

Footwear: Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots or wellies (the farm can be muddy). Thick socks to prevent blisters and keep toes warm.Weather appropriate clothing: On colder days please bring layers! We will be standing still more than walking. A moisture wicking base, a warm fleece or jumper, and a waterproof jacket. A sun hat or a warm beanie depending on the morning temperature. Long trousers (to protect against nettles, brambles, and ticks).

Foraging Kit: A sturdy basket or breathable cloth bags for your finds (avoid plastic bags please). A small, sharp pair of scissors or a foraging knife (please observe UK Legal Carry requirements). A notebook and pen to jot down identification tips. A camera or fully charged phone for photos of plants in situ.

Highly Recommended: A bottle of water and perhaps a thermos of something warm for colder days. Gardening gloves (essential for handling nettles or thorny plants). Sunscreen and insect repellent if required.
