The Snow Goose Cafe Bar, SK11 6HN
Description
* MAYDAY * MAYDAY * MAYDAY * MAYDAY *
The Grub Street Journal invites you for an afternoon of magazine chat in one of the quirkiest pubs in Macclesfield.
Grab a pint, and join this fine group of magazine people on May Day as we ask them how they’ve survived and thrived in this messed-up modern media landscape. They'll be walking us through the twists and turns of their adventures in magazine publishing and pointing us in the right direction for the future.
We'll be interviewing:
- Terri White, Journalist and Author
Terri will be telling us about the good, the bad and the ugly of the magazine industry
- Paul McNamee, The Big Issue
Paul will be telling us why a magazine is a must-have on the march against homelessness
- Kate & Jack Lennie, We Are Makers
Kate and Jack on making the killer move from artisan makers to indie magazine makers
- Roy Rowlands, Cognitive Publishing
Roy will describing his journey from print ad sales, starting over 20 years, to Director of Publishing and Events in a digital world.
After these delightful and insightful chats, we'd love you to stick around for a drink or two with us and our magazine pals - first drink on us!
What's in it for you
1. Get out of the office/away from your desk
2. Chat to other people who 'get it'
3. Pick up some inspiration for your own publication(s)
4. Learn how other people are solving the challenges you face every day
5. Support The Grub Street gang's mission to make magazine life more fun

Why Macclesfield?
Mostly because it's close to our home and we wanted to show there is plenty of life (and top-notch magazine making) outside of London. Plus there's the Ian Curtis mural on Mill Street.
More practically, Macclesfield has decent public transport links to Manchester, London, Glasgow and Edinburgh. If you fancy staying over, there's a Premier Inn very close to the station.

About The Grub Street Journal
The Grub Street Journal is a magazine for magazine people. A print quarterly, its goal is to be brutally honest about the magazine industry — honest, but also relentlessly optimistic.
The two magazine pros behind its creation, Peter Houston and Joanna Cummings, have been asked if Grub Street is a love letter to magazines.
The answer? Absolutely not.
We all know magazines are the absolute best, but there are also serious issues in the industry. So rather than a love letter, maybe think of Grub Street as a family intervention, or a call to action from the therapist's couch.
Every issue brings JC and PH's journalistic grit and a wry editorial eye to the biggest questions in magazine publishing, such as:
- What kinds of idiots still make magazines?
- Why won't print just lie down and die?
- Can you still make a magazine AND a profit?
The Grub Street Journal challenges the industry to change, and with its most valuable co-conspirators - our contributors, interviewees and readers - has a lot of fun along the way.
