Feminist Re-Imaginings at the Rio, 1980-2025!

Did you come to the women’s film and video screenings at the Rio in the late 1970s, 1980s or early 1990s? Were you a member of the Rio Women’s Cinema, the Women’s Media Resource Project, or did you work at the Rio? If so, I would love to hear from you! My illustrated talk will share my research, conducted in the Rio’s archive, excavating a feminist history of women’s film and video programming and community media activism. This is a cultural film history still in the process of being written. Please come along to share your memories and memorabilia. My research is an ongoing feminist curating project which aims to keep feminist moving image histories present and future-looking.

Selina Robertson is a film programmer, researcher and curator. She is a founder member of queer feminist collective Club des Femmes. She recently completed a PhD at Birkbeck on the Rio’s feminist film exhibition histories in the 1980s. She is a trustee of the Rio Cinema.
