Hackney Society: Stamford Hill Drinking Trough Recording
Ever wondered about the history of the granite trough by the side of the road outside Stamford Hill Library? Find out more by participating in this free event offered by the Hackney Society Building at Risk Group, which aims to document the present condition of the trough in order to support its forthcoming nomination for local heritage listing by Hackney Borough Council.
Meet outside the main entrance of Stamford Hill Library, postcode N16 6SB.
The event will begin at 10.30am sharp with a short introductory talk, explaining how the recording will be done. No prior experience or expertise is required, only enthusiasm! You will also learn about the work of the Hackney Society, the history of roadside drinking troughs, and local heritage listing.
The subsequent recording work will be a collective effort involving visual observations, measurements, photography and note-taking. Take part as much or as little as you like. (If you are particularly interested in the history of the local area, there is a separate piece of research that needs to be done at a different time in relation to the trough - make yourself known on the day if you'd like to take that on!)
This is one of a series of events taking place as part of a project to document all four of Hackney's historic drinking troughs that currently have no form of heritage listing. For further information please contact Rob Briggs via email at buildingsatrisk@hackneysociety.org.
