Walking Backwards through Time: Loddiges Nursery
Join us for a guided tour through the former site of Hackney’s Loddiges Nursery and learn how their international plant trading transformed landscapes around the world. The spectacle of the Nursery, with its innovative Palm House and infamous Botanical Cabinet, will be brought to life during the tour through maps, visual imagery and stories. We will hear from the Nursery plants themselves: of their migration stories, of plant hunters undertaking worldwide expeditions, of plant journeys from wilderness homes to London’s East End docks. The walk through the former Nursery site will finish in public gardens that act as a “living museum” with its array of flowers, shrubs and trees - whose ancestors were originally imported into the UK during the same era of Loddiges Nursery in the 1700 / 1800's.
