Ride - History Cycle: A bike tour of Hackney
The Pickwick Bicycle Club, founded in Hackney in 1870, is the world’s oldest cycling association. The ride will start outside its original base, on the northeast corner of Hackney Downs, before traversing the borough, with stops at Clapton Pond, Sutton House, St Augustine’s Tower, the Rio Cinema and other historic landmarks. Led by Anna Aslanyan, with support from Hackney Cycling Campaign, the tour will explore the colourful past of these places, look at their dynamic present and attempt to imagine their future. The route – a combination of cycle paths and local roads, mapped here – is suitable for competent cyclists aged 12 and over, who are expected to join on bikes. The event will end at Dalston Eastern Curve Garden
All proceeds will go to Leaside's cycling projects in Hackney. More details about their work here
