Come and have a tour around Hoxton Hall a surviving Grade 2* listed Music Hall on Hoxton Street. Opened in 1863 find out more about its colourful history from Music Hall stars and Temperance movements to rockstars and community shake ups the tour will be led by Dr Deborah Jeffries, historian, journalist, public speaker and tour guide specialising in Hoxton’s entertainment spaces.
BIO
Dr Deborah Jeffries is a historian, journalist, public speaker and tour guide. She gained her doctorate on 'Legitimising London's 'entertainment of the stage' 1737 to 1866' at the University of East London in September 2024. Her work explores the licensing and homogeneity of entertainment, most notably theatre, circus and music hall, in addition to challenging the notion of highbrow versus lowbrow. She specialises in the entertainments’ buildings of Hoxton – also those of Great Yarmouth, where she now lives most of the time.
