Talk and slide show with Neil Martinson
Drawing on his unique archive of images from the 70s and 80s, Neil explores the meaning of place, memory and identity over half a century of profound social, political and technological changes.
Documenting Hackney over the past six years he connects Hackney’s past with the present, and the present with the past. Tracing the how globalisation, Thatcherism and big money changed Hackney and what remains through the experiences of people in Hackney.
Ken Worpole, writer and historian says of Neil’s work: “His images are powerful narratives that delve deep into the human experience, offering a raw, unfiltered look at the struggles, joys and resilience of the people of Hackney. He reveals in often surprising ways the profound changes that have taken place over half a century, and what remains.”
Neil has seven exhibitions on in Hackney over the next two months.
