Join us for a guided tour of 5 Clapton Terrace

No 5 Clapton Terrace lies towards the east end of the Terrace, which appears to have been built house by house form the west end from about 1760. The houses at the west end are grander in proportion, with taller ceilings and decorative plasterwork. No 5 dates from the last quarter of the 18th c. It was owned by William Webb from 1790, but may have been owned and built earlier by a Mr Halifax, who built houses in the Terrace from 1773-1779. It still contains many late Georgian features, such as dado rails and paneling, doors and door cases, and some plaster cornices. The grander fireplaces howelver do not survive.

The present owner is restoring some of these original features, such as the front door copying the original at No4, and colours.  He thanks Leon Crafer for his research on this.

Book places using this page. There is a charge of £5 for members, and £10 for guests, plus booking fees, for this event. If you would like to join Hackney Society you can do so here.
