Joker James (also known as “JJ”) is the musical project of independent journalist and musician Alexey Ponomarev. It is a showcase of completely unique “bard–rap” genre that blends hip-hop groove, legacy of Russian rock scene, and echoes of the British 60s.

Songs of Joker James find their origin in the emotions accumulated by Alexey over years of work for independent media. These emotions spill out into biting and sometimes angry songs, as well as melancholic ballads about the vanity of virtually everything in the world and futility of existence.

Moreover, the lyrical protagonist of JJ often merges entirely with the author: many of Alexey’s friends are indeed considered to be “foreign agents” in Russia. In his work for the media he has followed the war Russia started in Ukraine since 2014. And for just as long he took every chance to mock so–called Russian “patriots”, “guardians”, enforcers and Z–activists of all sorts. Alexey proudly counts himself among “national traitors” and the “fifth column”.

At live shows Joker James is all about experiment. Running the vocals and guitar sounds through chains of audio effects, putting layers of music on top of each other, he weaves an immersive sonic tapestry – the kind that would leave no one in the audience untouched. The "Rodina Tour" setlist is built around tracks from the the brand new album of the same name, but also features JJ’s greatest hits.

We deliberately keep the ticket prices low, so that money would not stand in between of you and truly great music. However, if you wish, you can always pay a bit more by donating some extra (we have added that option below). All the money collected through donations would be used to cover the album release expenses. In case we collect more than we need, whatever is left would be spent by Alexey on charity.

Joker James — проект музыканта и журналиста Алексея Пономарева. Бенефис жанра «бардрэп», вместившего в себя и хип-хоповый грув, и наследие русского рока, и отголоски британских 60-х.

Эмоции, накопленные за годы работы в независимых медиа, выплескиваются в хлесткие треки на злобу дня и меланхоличные баллады о тщете всего сущего.

Лирический герой JJ зачастую полностью сливается с автором: многие из его друзей действительно «иностранные агенты», за войной в Украине он следит с 2014 года, примерно с тех же времен высмеивает всяческих «патриотов» и охранителей, а себя не без гордости зачисляет в национал-предатели и пятую колонну.

На концертах Алексей постоянно экспериментирует, пропуская свой голос и гитару через цепочку эффектов, наслаивая партии друг на друга, чтобы создать завораживающее слушателей звуковое полотно. Программа Rodina Tour включает в себя треки из одноименного нового альбома и все главные хиты JJ.

Мы умышленно держим цены на концерты тура низкими, чтобы как можно больше людей смогли приобщиться к прекрасной музыке - вне зависимости от достатка. Однако, если у вас есть возможность и вы хотите помочь, вы всегда можете заплатить чуть больше (через дополнительное пожертвование, мы добавили эту опцию ниже). Деньги, собранные таким образом, будут потрачены на покрытие расходов, связанных с выпуском нового альбома. В случае, если собрать получится больше, чем нужно, все, что останется, Алексей переведет на благотворительность.
