St. Morrell’s Day Festival

St Morrell was the Bishop of Angers in the Loire Valley of France in the fifth century. When the Lordship of the Hacluit Manor in Hallaton was given in the thirteenth century to the Martival family, who were Angevines, they brought their patron saint with them, and Hallaton subsequently became a major centre of pilgrimage. We invite you to join in our celebrations of St Morrell on his Saint's day.

The Festival begins at 2.30pm in St Michaels Church with a short service to dedicate the new St Morrells chapel in the Church. At 3.00pm there will be a medieval style procession from the Church to the Buttercross, and on arrival the children of Hallaton will entertain us with Handbell Ringing. 

The picture shows the 'Campenese Alcetonese' - Latin for Hallaton Bellringers - in the style of the Bayeux tapestry. After this the members of the Hallaton players will perform their "St Morrell Pageant" around the Buttercross. There may be other Medieval fun such as the village stocks on the village green.

At 4pm the Medieval Feast will be opened in an adjacent private garden to which entry is strictly by ticket. Your entry ticket entitles you to partake in the medieval hog roast feast and there will be a cash bar selling the famous Hallaton cider. Funds raised will be distributed between Hallaton charities.

Festival attendees are invited to come in medieval dress and join in the events in the true spirit of a medieval feast day.
