Say It Without Making Them the Bad Guy

Tue 22 Sep 2026 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM BST Online, Zoom

This is a taster workshop for our 6-week group programme “Say the Hard Thing” starting 12 Oct 2026. Find more information at www.transformconflictintoconnection.com.

NB: This will be recorded in case you can’t make it. It will be highly interactive, so it is advised to come live!

Let's say you're FINALLY raising something that matters. And before you know of it, one or both of you are getting defensive, people-pleasing,.... or collapsing and going quiet. That's shame. And once it's running the show, everything you've ever learned about "good communication" goes out the window. Because so much of hard conversations isn't the words at all. It's your nervous system. 💁🏻‍♀️

This taster works with that in two directions.

1) First, how to notice the early signs of shame rising in you, and what to do in the moment to come back to yourself.
2) Second, how to share something in a way that doesn't drop the other person into their shame, so they can actually hear you instead of defending themselves against feeling like the bad guy.

We'll play with a few practical tools: separating facts from interpretations (so your point lands as something real, not an attack), and making generous assumptions (staying curious about the other reasons someone might have done the thing that hurt you, rather than gripping onto bad intent). We'll also name what shame actually is and how it quietly derails even the most well-meaning repair.

You'll leave better able to say the hard thing clearly - and in a way the other person can genuinely take in.

This is a taste of Say the Hard Thing.

Georgie Nightingall

Georgie Nightingall is the founder of Trigger Conversations, a London-based organisation on a mission to make the world more human through the lost art of meaningful conversation. Bored and frustrated with the question ‘what do you do’, Georgie founded Trigger to find a formula for engineering more meaningful conversations in our everyday lives. Trigger’s event spaces and global transformational conversations training programmes are designed to invite participants to strip their work labels, go beyond small talk and be real - reclaiming conversation as an opportunity for adventure, play and discovery. She draws on over a decade of relational practice including circling, dance, embodied consciousness, improvisation theatre, IFS and coaching. Georgie’s ideas have featured in a TEDx talk, on Channel 4, and in outlets including The Times, The Telegraph, and Entrepreneur.com, and appear in Joe Keohane’s book The Power of Strangers.
