Join us for a hands on session to explore sashiko – a traditional Japanese hand-sewing technique using visible mending for clothing repair. In the past, conditions in Japan were harsh and people’s resources limited. So, there was a desire for fabric to last longer and it was stitched to strengthen and thicken it. We call this type of stitching Sashiko. Today, it’s becoming increasingly popular for mending clothes where the neat stitching becomes a feature.
Using materials provided, you will learn:
- Basic sashiko running stitch
- How to prepare fabric for mending
- Patch placement and simple pattern ideas
- Tips for strengthening worn out areas
Beginners welcome. Adults only. No sewing experience necessary
