Help Our Trees Grow On

Community Tidy Up Day 

Join us for a hands-on, feel-good community day caring for our local green spaces. There will be activities for all ages, so whether you can give a little time or stay for the whole session, you’ll be very welcome.

What we’ll be doing

🌳 Tree Guard Removal
Tree guards are invaluable when trees are young, protecting them from nibbling deer and rabbits. But once trees are well established, guards can begin to restrict growth and cause harm. For many of our local trees, the time has come for them to go it alone.

We’ll be removing old tree guards from established trees in the area. Where possible, guards will be reused by Harborough Woodland; those no longer suitable will be recycled responsibly.

🗑️ Litter Pick
Help tidy up surrounding areas and keep our shared spaces clean and welcoming.

🌿 Mulching Newly Planted Hedge Whips
We’ll be mulching young hedge plants to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and give them the best possible start.

Meeting point

We’ll meet at The Horse Shoe, Harvest Road, where there will be a short briefing before we set off to nearby locations.

No previous experience is needed—just a willingness to get involved, enjoy the outdoors, and support our local environment.

Together, we can give our trees and hedgerows the best chance to thrive.

Important information

• Please dress for the weather and the task, with sturdy footwear

• Gloves and eye protection are recommended

• There are no toilet facilities available

• Please bring safety knives (only) if possible, as some guards may need cutting away

• Hot drinks will be provided by Community Coffee Club WPLV — please bring your own mug

• Litter picking equipment will be supplied for use
