Dukatenkonzert

Event Details

Join Nathaniel Mander (fortepiano) and Declan Hickey (romantic guitar) for a modern-day Dukatenkonzert—a public concert in a private home, as held in early 19th-century Vienna for a ducat* per head. 

As members of the early romantic ensemble Harmonicon, Nathaniel and Declan are keen to revive the piano-and-guitar duo repertoire that was fashionable in the first half of the 19th century. The full programme, which includes a mixture of original duos, transcriptions and solo pieces, is printed below. 

Nathaniel will play on a fine square piano manufactured by John Broadwood and Sons in 1814; Declan on an undated 19th-century guitar made by William Hanbury.

Guests are cordially invited to socialise after the concert, with a complimentary drink.

As this event will take place in a private home, the address will be included on the digital ticket received after booking. The venue is a very short walk from Gospel Oak overground station (Mildmay and Suffragette lines). 

*According to the National Archives currency converter, an old Austrian ducat equates to £26.80 in modern sterling.

In the event of cancellation or postponement due to unforeseen circumstances, guests will be issued with a full refund of the ticket price.
