About the artist:

Eli Waltz (website) is a world traveler and folk rock musician who focuses the sum of his experiences on the road into a soulful, singular sound. His music incorporates American Blues, rock ‘n’ roll, Chinese Guqin and European Baroque music; his lyrics draw upon the poetic traditions of the Beat Generation.

He is known for whimsical lyricism, unconventional chord progressions and gut-punching harmonica solos. He weaves in traditional Chinese music–inspired by months and years living in Beijing and Yunnan as a working musician–and classical music to create his signature folk rock sound.

He is influenced by and identifies with musicians ranging from Ray Lamontagne to Pink Floyd to Shakey Graves to Gregory Alan Isakov. He builds upon and honors the legacies of all-time favorites Townes Van Zandt, John Lee Hooker, John Fahey, Beethoven and Guan Pinghu.

Waltz has shared the stage with nationally-recognized artists including Willie Carlise and Andrew Combs; Sir Paul McCartney and other musical heroes have heard and praised his music.

Waltz is part of a new wave of up-and-coming American Blues and folk artists in Washington, D.C., home of historic folk label Takoma Records, Skip James and other local artists who inspire Waltz’ work.
