The Gryphon String Quartet is made up of Natasha Colkett, Hannah Nicholas, Tess Varley, and Justin Yoder. They have known each other since they were teenagers, and debuted as a quartet this summer at Hannah's old stomping ground, the Gryphon Cafe. The four perform music from the baroque period to now - Justin is fresh off of Pig Iron Theatre’s “Poor Judge” and Hannah writes her own music. They play with a range of ensembles including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Ballet, Opera, and Chamber Orchestra, and Grammy-winning singer-songwriters.
Ernesto’s Club is a piano and percussion duo which explores the samba and choro traditions of Brazil. Their name is a tribute to Ernesto Nazareth, the turn-of-the-century Brazilian composer who combined Western classical and Afro-Brazilian music to create choro, the roots of samba, bossa nova and Musica Popular Brasileira. Their music is animated, joyful, syncopated, and bubbling with spontaneity. Both pianist Rob Curto and percussionist Gregg Mervine are Americans who learned their craft in Brazil, where they have lived off-and-on since the early 2000s. Rob and Gregg connected in 2023, and have already performed at the Kimmel Center, Johnny Brenda’s and the Perkins Center. Their first EP, entitled Nazareth was released in March, 2024.
