Silversmith (Margot Bassett Silver) is a vocalist and songwriter based in Minneapolis. She spent most of her life making interdisciplinary performance (that always involved singing) but that great transformer, the Covid pandemic, pushed her to follow the beautiful and unpredictable stream of creativity more solely towards music, songwriting, recording, and producing. Margot released her first album as Silversmith, soft skills, in July 2022 and a 2nd EP, Beautiful, in November 2024. Silversmith’s music is rich with lithe and expressive vocals, evoking immersive feeling worlds complemented by vivid, frank lyrics: her songs are invocations for how to be our most tender and luminous selves. Margot is also a parent, a tarot enthusiast, a student of grief, and a lover of beauty in all forms.

High Fiction believes that band bios should bring people together, not separate them. So you’d be doing them a huge favor if you turned to your neighbor right now and asked them what their favorite song was in 7th grade. Or call your Aunt Jan right now because she hasn’t heard from you in so long. High Fiction is Gary Grundei and Amy Shelley. They make layered pop music that might make you smile and cry at the same time. They’re currently at work on a concept album inspired by Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, Frankenstein. They’d insert more details about themselves here, but they know you still haven’t called Aunt Jan.
