About the artists:
Matt Pond PA (website | Spotify | IG)
For more than two decades, Matt Pond has quietly built one of the most enduring and emotionally resonant catalogs in indie rock. From early touchstones like Several Arrows Later and Emblems to fan-favorite records like The Dark Leaves and The Lives Inside the Lines in Your Hand, his work has been praised by outlets including Pitchfork, NPR, and Rolling Stone. His songs have appeared in television and film, his live shows have cultivated fiercely loyal audiences across the U.S. and Europe, and his songwriting continues to evolve — cinematic, intimate, and unafraid of beauty.
Matt Pond PA has shared stages with artists across the indie landscape and remains a singular voice: literate, melodic, string-laced, and deeply human.
“Pond is an old-fashioned troubadour above all — a sleepless dreamer. His songs, held aloft by his genially emotional voice, are humble and introspective, even when they’re aloof.” — NPR MUSIC
“Passionate, charming indie rock energy and intense vulnerability — The State of Gold soars as the band light our sound waves on fire.” — ATWOOD MAGAZINE
“The band’s 10th album sounds at home among its many predecessors, satisfyingly reconciled between Matt Pond PA’s restless drive and its rustic roots.” — NPR MUSIC, THE STATE OF GOLD
“Several Arrows Later was met with much critical praise, including a spot on Rolling Stone’s list of Ten Artists to Watch.” — POLYVINYL RECORDS
Bathtub Cig (solo)
Bathtub Cig is the intimate depression pop project of Hilary James. Born in a Minneapolis bedroom during the spring of 2017, it is an honest attempt at coping with her long struggle with mental health. Her 2018 debut EP, Old Light (featuring Dave Power on drums, Skyler Nowiski on bass, and Adelyn Strei on guitar and harmony) draws comparisons to a synth-pop version of Frankie Cosmo with raw lyrics.
Her 2021 EP bed is both a dream-like and hazy musing on quarantine as well as a heartbreaking attempt to cope with grief. In a departure from James’ first full-band EP, Old Light, this new release is a stripped-down solo voyage. Hilary is joined by Addie Strei (Adelyn Rose) on clarinet, flute, and bass to create beautiful textures to balance out the loneliness of the electric guitar.
