About this Event

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, join artist Prema Bangera for an inspiring workshop that weaves together guided art-making, reflective writing, and decolonized yogic practices to support healing, self-compassion, and authentic self-expression. Participants will sketch, paint and write as they explore how to challenge internal criticism and societal expectations to rewrite their personal narratives with strength and intention.

No art experience needed. This workshop centers Queer, trans, disabled, and Black, Latino, Asian American, and Indigenous individuals, and offers a supportive space for all.

FREE ticket includes refreshments, all art supplies, a gallery visit and networking. No prior experience needed. Suited for ages 14+

About the Exhibit

the art of becoming: Narratives of Transformative Love is on view at the Harvard Ed Portal's Crossings Gallery weekdays through May 21. Through vibrant mixed media works, Prema Bangera invites visitors to reflect on internalized narratives, release past wounds, and reclaim their authentic identity in a space designed for healing and empowerment.

About the Artist:

Prema Bangera (she/they) is a queer neurodivergent immigrant of color, multidisciplinary artist and founder and director of BIPoC Ancestral Arts as Love (BALA). They are a participant of the Harvard Ed Portal’s 2024 Artist Pipeline Program.

Advance registration is preferred for all Ed Portal programs and events. Walk-in attendees may not be admitted.

Parking is limited around the Ed Portal so we recommend taking public transportation.

Public transportation options:

We are about a 15-20 minute walk from the Red Line Harvard Square station or Green Line -B Harvard Avenue station.

Several MBTA buses also stop near the intersection of North Harvard Street and Western Avenue: #66, #86, #70.

Parking information:

If you choose to drive to the Ed Portal please be prepared to utilize the two-hour on-street parking surrounding the Ed Portal or to park at Artesani Park and walk 10-12 minutes along Western Avenue to arrive at the Ed Portal. A limited number of parking spaces are available in the rear of the Ed Portal building on a first come, first serve basis. You may only use parking spaces in the rear of the Ed Portal building outlined in orange paint.

To help protect visitors and staff, members of the public are asked to stay home if they are unwell or have experienced signs of illness* in the past 24-hours.
