Topic: Understanding Boston's Labor Market

Boston’s labor market is changing rapidly with strong job growth in some sectors and softening demand in others. This session will offer a data-driven snapshot of the current labor market, highlighting where hiring is strongest, which industries are contracting, and what these shifts mean for job seekers. Participants will gain practical insights to help them target promising sectors and navigate Boston’s dynamic economy.

About the presenter: 

Sarah Soroui is the Director of Research, Evaluation, and Analytics with the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development in the City of Boston, where she leads the City’s Learning Lab to advance evidence-based workforce strategies in partnership with employers, training providers, and community stakeholders. She is also Concentration Chair of the Women, Gender, and Sexuality concentration in the Master of Public Policy program and a faculty member at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, where she serves as a Research Fellow with the Institute for Economic and Racial Equity. Her research and publications focus on the future of work, technological change, and workforce development policy. Sarah holds a Ph.D. in Social Policy from Brandeis University and has previously worked with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Institute of Peace.

Advance registration is preferred for all Ed Portal programs and events. Walk-in attendees may not be admitted.

Parking is limited around the Ed Portal so we recommend taking public transportation.

Public transportation options:

We are about a 15-20 minute walk from the Red Line Harvard Square station or Green Line -B Harvard Avenue station.

Several MBTA buses also stop near the intersection of North Harvard Street and Western Avenue: #66, #86, #70.

Parking information:

If you choose to drive to the Ed Portal please be prepared to utilize the two-hour on-street parking surrounding the Ed Portal or to park at Artesani Park and walk 10-12 minutes along Western Avenue to arrive at the Ed Portal. A limited number of parking spaces are available in the rear of the Ed Portal building on a first come, first serve basis. You may only use parking spaces in the rear of the Ed Portal building outlined in orange paint.
