Adapting for Impact: The Role of Resilience in Practice with Dr. Nathalie Laidler Kylander

What is Resilience and why do we need it? Dr. Nathalie Laidler Kylander on the faculty of the Harvard Kennedy School, will discuss individual and organizational resilience by sharing case studies and exploring the Adversity Quotient, a measure of our ability to withstand and bounce back from adversity. This session explores how we can thrive and grow as individuals and organizations in times of turbulence and change.

About Dr. Nathalie Laidler Kylander:

Nathalie Laidler-Kylander returns to Harvard Kennedy School to serve as the Program Chair, Senior Executive Fellows (SEF). Nathalie was previously a Lecturer in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School (2010-2016), teaching in the Management Leadership and Decision Sciences (MLD) area and chairing several executive education programs. She was also a Senior Research Fellow at the Hauser Institute. A leading expert in the international nonprofit sector, she previously served as the CEO and President of Trickle Up, a development organization focused on economic and social empowerment of women living in extreme poverty, and worked as a Managing Director at the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation, acting as an operating partner to early-stage nonprofits and global social enterprises. Additional prior teaching experience includes the Fletcher School, Tufts University (2009 - 2011) and Boston University School of Management (2007-2009). Nathalie has supported many of her students as they created and launched social enterprises both at Tufts University and at Harvard.

Nathalie s experience spans both the public and private sectors, having previously held positions with the United Nations Development Program in Senegal, Doctors Without Borders in Armenia, as well as management roles at Medtronic Inc. Nathalie has served on the board of dozens of social enterprises, including EforAll, Foster America, and Solutions Journalism Network.

Her work has been widely published, including in the Harvard Business Review, and Stanford Social Innovation Review, and she is the co-author of The Brand IDEA: Managing Nonprofit Brands with Integrity, Democracy, and Affinity. She holds a BS in Biochemistry from Imperial College at London University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, where she received the Horace W. Goldsmith Fellowship, and a PhD from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, where she received the Conference Fund Award.

We are about a 15-20 minute walk from the Red Line Harvard Square station or Green Line -B Harvard Avenue station.

Several MBTA buses also stop near the intersection of North Harvard Street and Western Avenue: #66, #86, #70.

Parking information:

If you choose to drive to the Ed Portal please be prepared to utilize the two-hour on-street parking surrounding the Ed Portal or to park at Artesani Park and walk 10-12 minutes along Western Avenue to arrive at the Ed Portal. A limited number of parking spaces are available in the rear of the Ed Portal building on a first come, first serve basis. You may only use parking spaces in the rear of the Ed Portal building outlined in orange paint.
