About the Series

School counselors help students imagine what is possible after high school, explore pathways that match their strengths and goals, and navigate the steps required to move forward. Creating equitable postsecondary outcomes, however, requires more than offering the same activities to every student. Schools need a coordinated system of universal, targeted, and individualized support.

In this two-part series, participants will explore practical, evidence-informed Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 strategies that promote equitable access to college, career training, apprenticeships, military service, employment, and other postsecondary opportunities.

The series will also briefly consider Nevada’s College and Career Ready Diploma and how it connects with the school counselor’s broader postsecondary readiness work.

Participants will leave with useful data measures, practical intervention ideas, examples, and resources they can adapt for their schools.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the series, participants will be able to:

• Apply an equity lens to the design of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 postsecondary readiness supports

• Select and disaggregate postsecondary access data to identify opportunity gaps and students who may benefit from additional support

• Identify evidence-informed strategies, resources, and examples that support students across multiple postsecondary pathways

• Consider how Nevada’s College and Career Ready Diploma connects with broader postsecondary planning and support

This series is designed for Nevada school counselors and other education professionals who support students with academic planning, career development, postsecondary readiness, or transitions beyond high school.

About Your Speaker

Mindy Willard, M.A.

Mindy Willard is the Senior Director of Partner Development at Hatching Results, where she works with schools and districts to strengthen comprehensive school counseling programs and integrated student support systems. Before joining Hatching Results, Mindy served as the District School Counseling Coordinator for Madison Metropolitan School District, supporting more than 50 school counselors.

Mindy was named the 2013 American School Counselor Association School Counselor of the Year. Her experience includes serving as a K–8 school counselor, high school counselor, district leader, trainer, and national presenter. She is especially passionate about equity, tiered supports, and helping school counselors turn systems-level ideas into practical action.
