Celebrate May Day at Haymarket House
Join us for an afternoon of camaraderie, delicious food (including vegetarian and vegan options), and refreshments as we celebrate May Day and the long tradition of resistance it represents. In this volatile moment we are more grateful than ever for our Haymarket House community.
While this event is free to attend, it is our annual fundraising party for Haymarket House so we encourage donations to support our ongoing work creating a vibrant home for culture, politics, and community in Chicago.
May Day party activities include:
- $20 used book dive--fill up a bag with books for $20!
- Yard games for all ages
- Fun music
- New release Haymarket books for sale
- Yummy food and conversation with folks from our radical Chicago community
Please register through Ticket Tailor if you plan to attend so we have an accurate headcount for food and refreshments. If you are part of an organization we have an organizational ticket option so you can bring all your folks with just one registration.
This event is family friendly and will be held outside in the Haymarket House garden, weather permitting.

At Haymarket Books, we take inspiration and courage from our namesakes, the Haymarket Martyrs, who gave their lives fighting for a better world. Their 1886 struggle for the eight-hour day—which gave us May Day, the international workers’ holiday—reminds workers around the world that ordinary people can organize and struggle for their own liberation. These struggles—against oppression, exploitation, environmental devastation, and war—continue today across the globe.
Thank you to Revolution Brewery for supporting this event.
