Low Impact Development + DIY Rain Barrels

Sat Jul 11, 2026 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM CDT Headwaters at the Comal, 78130

Save Water. Protect Our Springs. Make Every Drop Count.

As our region continues to grow, protecting our vital water resources is more important than ever. Clean, abundant water supports our daily lives, recreation, local wildlife, and the endangered species that depend on our spring systems.

Join the Headwaters at the Comal team for a two-part workshop focused on practical, sustainable solutions you can use at home and in your community to help conserve and protect this precious resource.

In the first hour, we’ll explore the fundamentals of Low Impact Development (LID)—an approach to managing stormwater in ways that mimic nature. You’ll learn how simple, effective strategies can reduce runoff, improve water quality, and support a healthier environment. Topics include:

  • Rain gardens
  • Xeriscaping and drought-tolerant plants
  • Green roofs
  • Porous pavement
  • Bioswales and filter strips
  • Bioretention and biofiltration basins
  • Residential rainwater harvesting features like barrels and planters

In the second part of the program, the Conservation and Customer Solutions team from New Braunfels Utilities will lead a hands-on rain barrel workshop. You’ll build your own barrel and learn how to collect and reuse rainwater at home—an easy, cost-effective way to support your landscape and reduce water use, even during dry periods. Information about NBU rebates and conservation programs will also be provided.

All materials are included, and each family will leave with a completed rain barrel ready to install.  Please note the limit of 1 rain barrel per family.

Space is limited—register today and don't miss this chance to make every drop count!

Thank you to the New Braunfels Utilities Conservation Department for helping make this program possible.  Additional support provided by EPA and TCEQ.
