Come join us for our Nature Seekers program!

Nature Seekers is a fun, hands-on exploration of the natural world where kids investigate, experiment, ask questions, and discover how nature works.

Each session features a different theme with interactive stations, fascinating discoveries, and plenty of hands-on exploration. Programs are led by experienced Texas Master Naturalist volunteers with additional education training through Headwaters and Project WET / WILD.  Their superpower is making science interesting for kids (and grownups)!

Designed for elementary learners, Nature Seekers welcomes parents, grandparents, and siblings. Please register everyone attending.  Homeschool families can also enjoy these sessions as a hands-on way to extend science learning beyond the books.

• Ages: Families with elementary students; all attendees must be registered.
• Duration: 90 minutes or less
• What to Expect: Fun, hands-on science and nature activities in a comfortable indoor setting.
• Snacks: Please leave snacks at home; clear drinks are welcome.

🦴 September 16: Skins and Skulls- Get to Know Texas Wildlife

What can a skull, a hide, or a set of tracks tell us about an animal? Put on your scientist hat and investigate Texas wildlife up close!  Examine real specimens, compare features, and discover how scientists use clues from an animal's body to learn about how it lives, eats, moves, and survives.  

🪱 October 21: Micro-Monsters Hidden in Our Soil

There's a whole world of tiny creatures working beneath our feet!  Dig into the hidden world of decomposers and microscopic organisms and discover the important jobs they do to create healthy, living soil.  Build your own mini compost system using a water bottle, experimenting with the balance of carbon an nitrogen that helps decomposition happen.  

🌳 November 18: Tree Superpowers and Biomimicry

Nature has been inventing for a very long time, and humans are paying attention!  Explore the amazing ways plants function and discover how scientists and engineers copy ideas from nature to solve problems and invent new things.  Get hands on with some surprising examples of biomimicry: burrs and Velcro, spears and screws, dandelions and parachutes.  The take a microscopic look at Texas wintergrass and watch as its seed unwinds and prepares to grow in soil right before your eyes!
