Guided Tour: Archaeology at Headwaters

Kick Off Texas Archaeology Month at Headwaters!

Join us for a special guided archaeology tour at Headwaters with Mindy Bonine from the Texas Historical Commission.  With more than 25 years of experience in Texas archaeology, Mindy was previously the lead investigator of excavations at the Headwaters Site. She led the analysis and interpretation of more than 76 archaeological features and over 160,000 artifacts and samples, and on this tour she will share some of the stories behind the discoveries!

This special tour will highlight three new archaeology exhibits at Headwaters, while giving you the opportunity to hear the behind-the-scenes story of how they came together and why these particular themes were chosen:

• Timeline of Human Activity at Headwaters: Discover the long history of people visiting this remarkable site for millennia.
• Burned Rock Middens: Learn what these fascinating archaeological features reveal about the people who lived here and how they used the landscape.
• Stone Tools: Take a closer look at the tools people made and used, and what they can tell us about life in the past.

Mindy will add context and insights that you simply won’t get from reading the exhibit panels alone. This is a rare chance to explore Headwaters archaeology with someone who led the excavation, analysis, and interpretation.  Come curious, ask questions, and discover the stories hidden beneath our feet!

This is a Texas Archaeology Month experience you won't want to miss!

The tour begins at 9:30 AM and lasts one hour. Afterward, you are welcome to explore on your own.
