Black Maternity Matters - Community of Practice: Introducing Philosophy: Epistemic Injustice

Tue 17 Mar 2026 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM GMT Online, MS Teams

Jamie Jewkes is Project Support Officer for the Evaluation and Insights team is currently doing a MA in Philosophy at the University of Bristol, and is passionate about bringing the worlds of healthcare and philosophy together to reduce healthcare inequalities.

Jamie will be leading an accessible introduction to a key philosophical concept that can be used to understand the nature of many injustices that Black women and birthing people face when accessing healthcare. Epistemic injustice is an important framework used in much of feminist philosophy to help us understand and counteract the injustices that many of us face in everyday interactions.

Don't worry if you've never done philosophy before, this session is designed for newbies, and will help you match up theory with practice!
