Design change that works with people, not against them.
This one-day practical course is for people working on change projects who want to understand what really helps change succeed in health and care settings.
Drawing on improvement methods, systems thinking and behavioural science, the session focuses on how people experience change, what gets in the way, and how to design interventions that are ethical, proportionate and evidence informed.
You will work through practical tools and apply them to realistic challenges, building confidence to move from good ideas to meaningful action.
What you will gain...
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Understand the basics of improvement, systems thinking and human dimensions of change.
- Identify stakeholder needs using personas and galaxy mapping.
- Understand key concepts of behavioural science including defining and selecting behaviours to change.
- Using the COM-B and EAST models to analyse and plan effective interventions
- Create clear, effective communication that reaches the right people at the right time using PAC model.
What this session is not designed for...
This session is not about your own individual response to change, stress, or resilience at work.
If you are looking for support in this area, we recommend the following resources instead: https://www.healthinnowest.net/tips-for-developing-emotional-resilience-toolkit/ and https://de-frazzle.co.uk
It is also not about public health or clinical interventions that focus on changing individual behaviours, such as lifestyle or health behaviour change with patients or the public. For guidance on that area, see NICE guidance PH49: https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ph49
What this session is designed for...
This session is for people working on a change project who want to use behavioural science approaches to:
- Influence how people engage with a new process, system, service or way of working
- Encourage desired behaviours and reduce unintended or undesirable ones
- Design and implement change in a way that is ethical, proportionate and evidence informed
The focus is on applying behavioural science at a project, service or system level, rather than on individual wellbeing or clinical behaviour change.
