Sat 19 Oct 2024 7:45 AM - 9:45 AM
Heartwood CIC, DE4 5JX
Description
Move between our vis-mig watchpoint and moth trap and stay as long as you like to discover more about the changes Autumn brings to the farm
Visible bird migration (observing seasonal bird movements) is one of the great joys of Autumn birding and an important way to monitor species, numbers and migratory behaviour. October arguably sees visible bird migration at its busiest as lots of species continue to head south and our winter visitors begin to arrive and pass through. Meadow Pipit migration reaches its peak, Finches are on the move and Thrushes start to arrive with Redwing, Fieldfare and migrant Blackbird and Song Thrush passing over and arriving on the farm for winter. Join us at our watchpoint overlooking the Derwent Valley as we attempt to spot and record October's movers.
At the same time local moth expert Steve Thorpe will be emptying the previous night's moth trap and potting up and identifying the catch.
This will be followed by a bookable autumn bird walk starting at 10am. Please follow the link for more information and tickets: https://buytickets.at/heartwood/1333608
Please bring binoculars if you have them and dress for the conditions with suitable footwear (this is a working farm).
Please note adverse weather conditions/forecast (heavy rain, fog/mist) may lead to postponement or cancellation of one or more elements.
