This programme has just been recorded by Irlandiani, kindly funded by the Continuo Foundation, and will be releasing with First Hand Records on the 15th September 2023. It focusses in on the vibrant musical life of 18th century Dublin at the Smock Alley Theatre and it’s surrounding streets.
It will feature a set of galant cello duos written by the Neapolitan composer Tomasso Giordani, who moved to Dublin in 1763 to become musical director at the Smock Alley Theatre, and works by Roseingrave, Geminiani, Bocchi and Hutcheson.
Also included are a number of arrangements of Irish tunes from the 18th century, featuring the atmospheric, rich and earthy sound of multiple bass instruments, and some new compositions based on Irish melodies.
