Painting and Collage: A Four-Day Course with Moira Maclean Outer Hebrides | 6th–9th July 2026
A four-day mixed media course with one of Lewis’s most celebrated artists. Bring an image or a poem — leave with a piece of your own. Maximum 7 places.
What would it look like to turn a memory, an image, or a poem into a piece of art? Over four days, you’ll find out — guided by one of the Outer Hebrides’ most distinctive and celebrated visual artists.
Moira Maclean’s work layers paint, collage, found papers and salvaged materials into richly atmospheric pieces rooted in Hebridean landscape, memory and place. In this course, she’ll share her approach to mixed media and collage, helping you develop your own piece over four days using something personal as your starting point — an image you love, a photograph, or a piece of poetry that means something to you.
No two participants will make the same thing. That’s the point.
About Your Tutor
Moira Maclean is a visual artist born, bred and based on Lewis, and an MFA graduate from Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. Her work — which layers paint, vintage wallpaper salvaged from abandoned croft houses, collage and found materials — has earned her a dedicated following on and off the islands. Her home on Lewis, which reflects the same layered, collected aesthetic as her art, made it to the final of Scotland’s Home of the Year.
