Join Lorraine for a half-day or full-day, outdoor craft workshop and make a selection of plant supports you can be proud of! The workshop is set within the picturesque location of Birtley Woodland Art Space. We will use Willow or Hazel to create our plant supports, a large majority of these materials are coppiced and harvested locally.

The Workshop

Our full-day workshop will provide you with sufficient time to make a mini-Obelisk as well as a large Obelisk plus either a large decorative Trellis, Cylindrical Plant Support or Cloche! We use various styles of weaving to create the plant supports, we will demonstrate these styles on the day and happy for you to be creative with your own designs!

In our morning workshop, you will be able to choose from one of the following options:

  • A mini-Obelisk plus a large Obelisk
  • A mini-Obelisk plus a Cylindrical Plant Support.

In our afternoon workshop, you will be able to choose from one of the following options:

  • Decorative Trellis
  • Peony Cloche


PLEASE NOTE FOR THE SEPTEMBER WORKSHOP WE ARE NOT OFFERING THE PEONY CLOCHE AS RUN OUT OF THE WILLOW NEEDED FOR THESE.

Time

Full-day workshop: - 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. (includes a 1-hour break for lunch)

Morning workshop: 10.00 a.m. to 12.30/1.00 p.m. (2.5 to 3 hours)

Afternoon workshop: 1.30 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. (2.5 hours)

Suitability

The workshop is suitable for Adults and Teenagers only. You will be able to work independently or in pairs. This course is not suitable for those who may suffer from severe arthritis in their hands.

What should I wear?

We recommend you wear comfortable, outdoor clothing and footwear. You may also wish to bring a pair of gloves, to protect your hands. You may also wish to bring something to kneel on, and your own secateurs if you have them.
