Our open day

In our marquee: You’ll find a range of stalls where you can learn about the vital minerals that are extracted at the quarry and how they help make the construction materials used to build and maintain our homes ,schools and hospitals and roads as well as the other infrastructure we all rely on.

Members of the Batts Combe team will also be on hand to talk about all things quarrying, such as geology and blasting as well as the varied career opportunities we offer. Plus, there will be information about the wildlife that calls the quarry home.

We’re delighted that we’ll also be joined by blasting specialists BAM, minerologists from the Russell Society as well as representatives from Somerset Wildlife Trust.

Quarry bus tour: Take a guided minibus tour of the quarry and see some of the giant quarry machinery, such as the CAT 775 dump truck and CAT 395 excavator. The bus tour is expected to last approximately 30 minutes and visitors will be able to disembark to see the machinery close up and take pictures from the viewing platform.
