Welcome to Talk 1 of 13 - From Anger to Collapse to Action: Activism When it Feels Like You Can’t Win

Making change in today’s political climate can feel like shouting into the void. Whether it’s disappointing election results, world conflicts, or the pervasive sexism of your everyday life, for most of us, feelings of helplessness and hopelessness are the name of the game.

The anger, grief, and collapse we’re feeling are normal reactions to catastrophes too big to conquer individually. So we shrink in on ourselves, repress our overwhelming emotions, and sink into our couches, numbing out with a social media feed we increasingly despise.

Is there another way? Maybe one that doesn’t give ad revenue to a cadre of megalomaniac billionaires with questionable politics?

This talk will focus on repairing our hurt, restoring our hope, and re-galvanizing ourselves for the activism ahead. We’ll cover:

  • How collapse and numbness keep us from igniting change
  • The lessons women and girls are taught at every life stage that keep us small and disconnected from our anger
  • How to re-connect to your feelings – and the drive to change they create
  • Concrete strategies to help you take positive action to challenge injustice

The goal of this talk is to help you pick yourself up and dust yourself off after a frustrating loss so you can keep going to create change.

Jennifer Cox

Jennifer is a London-based psychotherapist specialising in women's issues. Her practice is international, and the universal experiences of the women she treats inspired her to set up the organisation Women Are Mad movement 18 months ago. It then exploded into a global podcast Women Are Mad!

Her book, Women Are Angry: Why Your Rage Is Hiding And How To Let It Out dropped in the summer in the UK, and has sold multiple translation rights. It arrived in the US and Canada in December 2024.

Holly Burton

Holly is an executive coach for women in male-dominated industries. She works one-on-one with ambitious women to help them lead, get promoted, and create the careers they actually want in industries they love.

As a mining engineer for the first ten years of her career, Holly was exposed to one of the most male-dominated spaces -- just 17% female. She uses the unique perspective she gained as a woman in mining, alongside her obsessive nerdiness for all things feminism, leadership, and career to help women create the working world they deserve while they wait for the rest of society to catch up.
