Sounds of Summer 

Join us for an evening of uplifting jazz rhythms and summer songs – perfect for what we
hope will be a lovely balmy summer evening!
A Little Jazz Mass is one of Chilcott’s most celebrated and popular choral works, with countless
performances across the world. First performed in New Orleans in 2004, the various movements
embrace a variety of jazz styles. Songs and Cries of London Town is a choral cantata in five
movements, drawing on poems from writers including Orlando Gibbons and William Wordsworth
to evoke a vibrant impression of London’s sights, sounds, and moods in times gone-by. We then
shift from one great city to another with a West Side Story medley, from one of the most loved and
celebrated musicals of all time.
Henley Youth Choirs’ repertoire also includes pieces by Bob Chilcott, with the charming Times and
Seasons; Can You Hear Me, describing the wonder of a world seen through the eyes of a deaf
child; and Green Songs - fun, funky, with jazzy rhythms and rap-style verses.

With David Smith and Ian Tindale on piano, Andrea di Biase on double bass and Ben Hartley on percussion, and complete with a few upbeat surprises and audience participation, we hope our Sounds of Summer concert will send you out singing and toe-tapping into the night.
