An Evening with a Master of Hawaiian Slack Key

Continue the Artist 2 Artist series with an extraordinary evening featuring slack key master Ledward Kaapana, hosted by Henry Kapono. As the second show in the series, this special performance offers a rare opportunity to experience one of Hawai‘i’s most revered musicians up close in an intimate setting.

Henry and Ledward share deep musical roots dating back to the 1970s, when Ledward rose to prominence as a member of the legendary group Hui ʻOhana, helping to shape the sound of a generation alongside contemporaries like C&K.

A multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner and National Heritage Fellowship recipient, the nation’s highest honor in traditional arts, Ledward is widely regarded as one of the last true masters of slack key guitar. His playing is joyful, intricate, and deeply expressive, carrying the heart and soul of Hawai‘i.

Set in the intimate waterfront atmosphere of Kapono’s at The Lounge, this special evening invites guests to slow down, listen deeply, and experience a true living legacy—up close, unfiltered, and full of feeling.
