AMERICANA EXPERIMENT: ISLAND GRASS

Hawaiʻi Favorites Get a Bluegrass Twist

with Hook + Line - Jacob Staron & Mari - and Friends

What happens when Hawaiʻi meets the Appalachian foothills? Island Grass.

For this edition of Americana Experiment, Hook + Line, featuring Jacob Staron and Mari, takes some of Hawaiʻi’s most loved songs and gives them an unexpected spin, reimagining island favorites through the high-energy sounds of acoustic bluegrass, country, and Americana.

Think “Island Style,” “Coconut Girl,” “Sweet Lady of Waiahole” and more. Songs you know and love, transformed with driving rhythms, acoustic strings, harmonies, banjo, fiddle, and a little bluegrass fire.

Joining Jacob and Mari are Lesley Kline on fiddle, Geoff James on banjo and ʻukulele, and Erik Nakamoto on upright bass, bringing the whole thing together with the feel of a relaxed Pau Hana porch jam with friends.

It’s Hawaiʻi roots meeting Appalachian roots, with plenty of familiar favorites, surprises, great musicianship, and sing-along moments along the way.

Come hear your favorite island songs like you’ve never heard them before.
